STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern cross country team returns to Columbia, South Carolina for their second meet of the season and is looking to build on their second-place finish at the Carolina Invitational on Aug. 30. The Eagles will compete in the USC Open #1 at Hilton Field on the grounds of Fort Jackson Saturday at 9 a.m.

FRESHMEN UP FRONT
Bailey Willett and Karli Koning led the way for Georgia Southern in the Carolina Invitational and finished 8th and 9th in the meet, respectively. Willett posted a time of 19:52.33 and was the first Eagle to cross the finish line in 2014. Koning was right behind her and finished second on the team with a time of 19:59.91.
CAREER TIMES
Ashton Lord and Leigha Long both tallied some of the best times in their careers in the first meet of the year and are looking to build on those performances at the USC Open #1. Lord posted her second-best time (20:47.00), while Long ran her third best time (22:27.20).
FIRST YEAR IN SUN BELT
Georgia Southern Athletics became a full member of the Sun Belt Conference officially on July 1, 2014, and the Eagles will compete in the Sun Belt Cross Country Championships on Nov. 11 in Mobile, Ala.
SUN BELT PRESEASON POLL
Georgia Southern was selected ninth in the Sun Belt Conference preseason poll. Coach Carter sees the poll as "something for our young ladies to strive for. Our goal is to place the highest we have ever placed in conference competition." Arkansas State was picked first in the league, while UT Arlington received the second largest number of points.
LORD LOOKS TO BUILD ON FRESHMAN CAMPAIGN
Ashton Lord returns after a stellar freshman campaign and is looking to build on her first year in Statesboro. Lord finished first among her teammates in each of the first four meets of the season. She posted a season-best time of 20:07.37 at the Will Wilson Citadel Invitational and ran a 20:50.27 at the Southern Conference Championships.
