Troy University is a comprehensive public university that is located in Troy, Alabama, United States. It was founded on February 26, 1887 as Troy State Normal School within the Alabama State University System by an Act of the Alabama Legislature. It is the flagship university of the Troy University System. Troy University is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS) to award associate, baccalaureate, master's, education specialist, and doctoral degrees.

About Troy Athletics
Troy University moved to the FBS level in 2001 and first started its affiliation with the Sun Belt Conference as a football only member in 2004 before joining in all sports in 2005. Troy has 18 varsity teams and is well known for its football, baseball and rodeo squads. 

The Troy football team has been continuously operated since the end of the Second World War and resumed play in 1946. Troy has won three football national championships. The first coming at the NAIA level in 1968 and the other two as members of the NCAA's Division II in 1984 and 1987. Troy holds wins in football over Mississippi State, nationally ranked Missouri and Oklahoma State. The Trojans have participated in five bowl games with the last coming in 2010.
