
Walker Finishes 21st in Long Jump at NCAA East Regionals

Junior improves 15 spots from initial regional ranking
STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern junior Jasmin Walker became the first Eagle to compete in the Long Jump at the NCAA East Regionals, finishing her 2014 outdoor season with a 6.05m (19'10.75") mark for 21st place. She improved 15 spots after entering the NCAA Regionals with a No. 36 ranking in the Long Jump. Forty-eight competitors from the East region qualified for individual events.
From Fairburn, Ga., Walker qualified with a personal best 6.14m (20'1.75") at the Georgia Tech Invitational two weeks ago. She won her third-straight SoCon outdoor Long Jump title, and fifth in both indoor and outdoor, at the end of April.
Georgia Southern's individual track competitor, senior Aarian Tipton, will race in the 200m Dash Friday night with the event scheduled for an 8:25 p.m. start. Tipton becomes the first Eagle to race in the 200m event at the NCAA East Regionals since 2003. The Eagle 4x100m Relay team, which includes both Walker (second leg) and Tipton (third leg) will the first to represent Georgia Southern in that event at the NCAA East Regionals
The top 12 qualifiers in each individual event and the relay teams in both the East and West Regions advance to the NCAA national championships June 11-14 in Eugene, Oregon.
