Hennon Interview | Howard Interview
SAVANNAH, Ga. - Members of the Georgia Southern baseball team took time away from their preparations for the Southern Conference Tournament to visit patients at Memorial Health University Medial Center.
The team took shifts starting at 8:45 am to visit patients in their rooms in the Children's Hospital and play with those waiting to be seen by the staff.
Head Coach Rodney Hennon thought the visit was "good for our guys and put some smiles on some faces here. I think it makes you appreciate what you have and the opportunity you have to go out and play a game like baseball."
"It was awesome to come down here. One guy named Wesley opened up with us in there and told us how it had been an emotional run for him to get through chemotherapy. It was awesome to come down here and listen to people like that," starting pitcher Sam Howard said.
The baseball team continues preparations for the 2014 SoCon Tournament in Charleston, S.C. May 20-25 and will await their seed once the contests this weekend are completed. The Eagles wrapped up the regular season on Tuesday with a 10-9 win at Jacksonville and sit at 34-20, 15-12 in league play.
