Box Score
GREENSBORO, N.C.  – Georgia Southern dropped the final game of a three-game series with UNCG on Sunday, 11-10. Georgia Southern led early, but an eight-run UNCG fourth gave the home side a 8-4 advantage. The Eagles battled back with six runs in the sixth, but a three-run home run by the Spartans was enough for the win. Rain forced the game to be called after six innings.

"That was one of those games that could have gone either way," said Head Coach Annie Smith. "We did a good job of battling back after UNCG's big inning, but things didn't go our way late."

After stranding a runner in the first inning on a warning track fly ball by Kourtny Thomas, Kaitlyn Johnson provided the power by crushing a no-doubt home run to left. It was her seventh career long-ball and her third his season.

Johnson scored the second run of the game in the fourth inning after the junior got her second hit of the ballgame. She was able to get under the tag at the plate to score the run on Brianna McLendon's ground ball to second. Back-to-back walks pushed Lexi Allen in to score and a sacrifice fly by Shelby Morrill, on which the UNCG fielders collided, scored McLendon for a 4-0 Georgia Southern advantage.

After the first run scored in the fourth inning, UNCG's head coach was ejected from the game for persistent arguing by the home plate umpire.

UNCG exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning with all eight coming with two outs in the inning. After the first two runs scored, Sarah Purvis came on in relief. An illegal pitch scored the first and three-straight hits made the score 8-4. The first five runs were charged as unearned against Brooke Red while the ensuing three runs went as earned against Purvis. Marla Thompson came in and got a strikeout to quell the threat in the fourth.

Georgia Southern got a walk and an infield single to put a pair of runners on base for Emily Snider. The freshman outfielder smashed her third home run of the season to right for her fourth RBI of the game and made it a one-run game. The long-ball forced UNCG to lift their ace pitcher, Raeanne Hanks for relief pitcher Nicole Thomas.

Kourtny Thomas got aboard with a throwing error by the pitcher and the Eagles moved the runner along with a single through the right side. Catcher AJ Hamilton hit a drive that found the ground just short of the warning track, allowing two more runs to score. She reached third on the wild relay toss and scored on a wild pitch to give the Eagles a 10-8 advantage going to the bottom half of the sixth.

A hit and a walk put two runners aboard to start the inning as Allie Miles came in to pitch for Thompson. The Eagles got a pair of outs, but a three-run home run by Toni MacReynolds handed the Spartans their second lead of the game, 11-10.

The persistent rain finally made the field unplayable at the end of the sixth. The field was tarped and after a half hour, a decision was made to call the game after six innings, handing UNCG the 11-10 win.
