Two Eagles Named All-Conference, Picked 3/5 in Preseason SoCon Poll

STATESBORO, Ga. - The 2014 Georgia Southern baseball team was picked third in the Southern Conference Preseason Media Poll and fifth in the Preseason Coaches Poll. The Eagles also had two players named to the Preseason All-Conference team in Chase Griffin and Ben Morgan.
Georgia Southern, who went 27-32 and finished seventh in the SoCon a year ago, finished behind Western Carolina and The Citadel in the media voting and received 131 points to finish just ahead of Elon for third place. In the coaches poll, the Eagles received 48 points and finished behind Appalachian State and Elon for fifth place.
Two of GSU's key returners, Griffin and Morgan, were selected to the league's Preseason All-Conference Second Team.
Griffin hit .272/.344/.372 with four home runs and was second on the team with 47 RBIs last season. The junior catcher, who is receiving recognition as a draft prospect, started all 59 games and posted 15 extra-base hits in 2013.
Morgan, a senior infielder, led the team with a .307 batting average last season. He tallied a team-best 16 doubles and finished the season with six home runs and 36 RBIs. Morgan was second behind T.D. Davis a year ago in total bases and posted a .465 slugging percentage. He also stole 27 bases in 35 attempts.

The Eagles open the 2014 campaign on Feb. 14 at Georgia and will play their first home contest on Feb. 19 against Georgia Tech.
