Team Scope
Ga. Southern: Georgia Southern is off to their best start since 2009, when they opened the year with an 11-1 record. The Eagles won 42 games, a SoCon Tournament title and were the #2 seed in the Fullerton Regional. Dalton Busby hit the team's 12th home run in the second inning of Sunday's Maryland-Eastern Shore series finale, their eighth game of the season. It took the Eagles 15 games to reach the 12 home run mark a year ago. In all eight Eagles have hit a long ball this season. A year ago only seven players hit a home run. The team is batting a SoCon-best .359 and is tops in the league in slugging percentage, on base percentage, runs, hits, RBI, doubles, home runs and is second in the conference with a 2.66 ERA.
Ohio: Freshman outfielder Mitch Longo has 11 hits in his first 24 collegiate at-bats and is hitting .458 with 2 doubles and a home run in six games. The Bobcats are off to a 2-4 start with wins over Murray State and Liberty in the early going. Ohio was suppose to open the season at Western Carolina but snow forced that series to be cancelled. The Bobcats are in the midst of a 14 game road trip to open the season. They will play their first home game on March 12.
SIUE: Ryan Daniels has been stellar in his return from an injury that held him out last season. Daniels has not allowed a run through two starts this season and has struck out 13 batters in 10 innings. Daniels has allowed only four hits and a walk. Daniels struck out eight and allowed only one hit over five innings in the Cougars' only win of the season, a 4-3 12 inning victory over New Mexico State.
Who's Hot: Stryker Brown was named the SoCon's Player of the Week after hitting .412 with a .882 slugging percentage in five games last week. Brown hit two home runs including a grand slam in the weekend series against UMES.
