STATESBORO, Ga.- Georgia Southern swimmer
Megan Ostrom, or Meg-O, is a native of St. Louis Park, Minnesota. Not only is she successful in the pool, but also in the classroom. She will be graduating with a 3.9 cumulative GPA, and has earned the Dean's List for three semesters and the President's List for four semesters. Megan has been accepted to doctoral programs in physical therapy and has more upcoming interviews.
Meg-O has been a key component in GSU's breaststroke and IM groups having placed in the top 16 in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, and 200 IM consistently at the CCSA Championships.
We asked Meg-O some questions about her time here at GSU:
1. What is one of the most memorable moments you've experienced during your swimming career here at Georgia Southern?
One if the most memorable moments for me is when our bus pulled into the parking lot of The Flamingo Motel my junior year during our training trip to Fort Meyers. No one believed at first that that was where were actually going to stay.
2. How did you become interested in swimming?
Early on my parents had me in swimming lessons. At the time my older cousin was swimming Division I and I was fortunate enough to watch her compete. This inspired me to want to swim at a very young age.
3. What's the most valuable thing you've learned from your coaches?
Over my four years here I have learned so much from my coaches. One thing that I have applied not only to swimming but all aspects of my life, is that dedication and determination will help you achieve your dreams. These key ingredients have led to my success both in the pool and in the classroom, thus allowing me to pursue my dream career of becoming a physical therapist.
4. What's your favorite Georgia Southern tradition?
My favorite Georgia Southern tradition is when Freedom flies across the stadium and down on to the field at football games. The swim team also has a tradition for graduation that I am very excited for- for the graduation ceremony we wear our swim suits under our robes. This is a tradition I have been looking forward to since freshman year.
5. What are your career goals after college?
After graduation in May I will be attending physical therapy school. It is a three year doctoral program. I have currently been accepted to two schools: University of Wisconsin-Madison and Elon University. I also have two interviews coming up soon at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and Emory University. I am very excited to pursue my passions of the human body and helping others. Some specific topics within physical therapy that I am interested in are pediatrics, disabilities, and oncology. Once I am an established physical therapist I plan to lead medical mission trips to follow my passions even more.
Congratulations and good luck Meg-O!
