BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore Kelsey Arnold topped her own school record in the Weight Throw by nearly a meter as the Georgia Southern track and field program opened its 2014-15 indoor season at the Birmingham Southern Icebreaker Friday.
Arnold's third throw of 17.90m broke her own school record of 16.97m, set in the 2014 Southern Conference Indoor Championships, and earned her first place in the event.
"We had some great performances today," said Georgia Southern coach Kelly Carter. "I'm especially happy for Kelsey, who broke her own school record in the Weight Throw. The girls have worked really hard this fall, and it showed today. I'm really happy with the way we went out and competed, and the Birmingham Complex was a great venue for our first meet."
Abby Booth, Karli Koning, Rebecca Parker and Ashton Lord recorded a time of 13:49.36 to place third in the Distance Medley Relay. Keyanna Harris took fourth in the High Jump with a mark of 1.60m, and Jordan Fordham placed eighth in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 25.45.
Asha Stegall and Kimberly Thomas both finished in the top-10 in 400 Meter Dash. Stegall took sixth with a time of 58.22, while Thomas placed ninth with a time of 59.03. The duo combined with Sadia Yansaneh and Nia Hill to place eighth in the 4x400 Relay with a time of 4:01.61.
Ashleigh Rasheed and Camryn Coleman both recorded personal best marks in the Long Jump. Rasheed registered a mark of 5.26m and Coleman notched a distance of 5.16m.
The Eagles have just over a month off before returning to action at the Orange and Purple Classic, hosted by Clemson, Saturday, Jan. 10.
