Mark Byington and Eagle Basketball to Appear at Friday’s Run the Boro 5K

Annual event is part of the City of Statesboro’s First Friday Holiday Celebration
STATESBORO, GA. – On Friday night, December 5th, 2014, members of the Georgia Southern Men's Basketball team and head coach Mark Byington will preside over the "Run the Boro 5K" which is part of the First Friday Holiday Celebration in downtown Statesboro.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. as Coach Byington performs his duties as Master of Ceremonies and starts the Run the Boro 5K race. Members of the team will also be on hand to sign autographs and participate in the holiday parade. Gus will be on hand to take pictures and entertain the crowd, while Byington will serve as celebrity judge of the Chili Cook-Off.
Georgia Southern Athletics will be on site with season ticket information, posters and schedule cards. The City of Statesboro will give away tickets for the December 22nd Men's Basketball contest against Truett-McConnell.
Other events around downtown include a holiday parade, the lighting of the Statesboro Christmas Tree on Courthouse Square, and the annual Chili Cook-Off. Patrons can sample some of the best chili recipes from around the region for just $1. All the proceeds will go to the e+ Foundation at South Georgia Center for Cancer Care.
Santa and Mrs. Clause will be available for free photographs inside Santa's workshop, housed in the Averitt Center for the Arts. Country music recording artist Jared Wade will perform holiday favorites and set the mood for the festive season. Downtown restaurants and shops will stay open late, while local vendors will offer food and merchandise.
