Hoffman/Lanne Remain Unbeaten In Doubles
Statesboro, Ga. – The Eagles enjoyed plenty of success on day two at the Georgia Southern Round Robins. From the Wallis Tennis Center on the campus of Georgia Southern, the Eagles got out to a high energy start as they took to the court for doubles action.
The tandem of Kyle Hoffman and Jose Eduardo Landin Lopez defeated Daly/Faiman of College of Charleston 8-3 and followed it up with a 8-5 win over Baum/Bishop of Georgia State. They remain unbeaten through three matches at the tournament.
Two additional Eagles tandems made it a perfect 2-0 in doubles matches on day two. Ristomatti Lanne and Nico de Groof combined to get a win over Baum/Bishop 8-7(8) and then won again against Handa/Horvat of Georgia State 8-3.
Christian Kerrigan and Albert Codina Sala defeated College of Charleston's Lewis/Allanic 8-6 and followed it up with a 8-2 victory over Daly/Faiman.
The duo of Robbie Thompson and Daniel Casablancas fell 0-2 on the day. They were setback by Handa/Horvat 7-8(10) and College of Charleston's Ghriskey/Kichigin 2-8.
"We had a very solid day with 3 doubles teams going 2-0. Our team energy in the doubles was great except for Nico and Rise who came out with a bit of a slow start. They came from down 6-3, and picked it up and saved a few match points to grind out the win," remarked Head Coach Nick Zieziula.
In the A Singles flight, Lanne defeated Zack Lewis of College of Charleston in straight sets 7-6(3), 6-2. Teammate Hoffman took 3 sets to handle College of Charleston's Brice Allanic 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
"Kyle and Rise had the best wins of the day in singles. Rise was not at 100 percent but he found a way to gut through a tough set and used that momentum to get an early break in the second and that was all he needed. Kyle put together a very solid performance against a tough opponent, Brice is a tricky guy to play but Kyle stayed even keeled and focused through the whole match," applauded Zieziula.
Codina Sala lost to Georgia State's Zack Kennedy 0-6, 1-6 while teammate Casablancas was defeated by Eric Baum of Georgia State 6-4, 4-6, 3-6.
In the B Singles flight, Kerrigan and Landin remain unbeaten. Kerrigan handled Matt Daly defeat 6-3, 6-3 and Landin was victorious over Chinmay Handa 6-3, 6-3. De Groof improved his tournament mark to 1-1 after a commanding win over Christian Gochnauer 6-0, 6-1.
