STATESBORO, GA. – Georgia Southern Men's Basketball took a 86-49 win over Trinity College on Tuesday night in the 2014-15 home opener. Five Eagles were in double figures as 10 of the 11 players who saw action found their way on the scoresheet. Next up is a Saturday night special against Johnson University at 7 p.m.
"We started the game with the right intensity and the right focus," said Head Coach
Mark Byington. "I always tell the guys never to play the opponent, and that goes for if we are playing Kentucky or someone else. We've got to play the game and play it the right way. We did that early, but things came easy for us and we got sloppy with the ball. There were some positive things early before things got sloppy, and I'm happy that I got to play some of the young guys."
Trent Wiedeman and
Jelani Hewitt led all scorers with 15 points each. Hewitt shot 6-of-9 from the field with six rebounds. Hewitt made two-of-three from downtown with two rebounds and a game-high five assists with five steals. With the win, Georgia Southern improves to 1-1 on the season.
Overall, five Eagles finished with double figures with
Mike Hughes,
Curtis Diamond and
Devonte Boykins dropping ten points each. Freshman
Jake Allsmiller scored nine points with ten rebounds while
