
Cross Country Set to Compete in First Ever Sun Belt Championship

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern cross country team looks to build on their five regular season meets and will race against their conference opponents in their first ever Sun Belt Cross Country Championship meet on Sunday.

Date – Sunday, November 2
Location – Mobile, Ala./USS Alabama Memorial Park
Time – 11 a.m. ET
Teams – Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Georgia State, South Alabama, Texas State, Troy, UT Arlington, UALR, UL Lafayette, UL Monroe
First Sun Belt Championship Meet
Georgia Southern cross country will compete in their first-ever Sun Belt Championships after the University joined the league at the start of the 2014-15 academic year. The Cross Country team is the first varsity sport to compete in a Sun Belt Conference Championship.
Conference Preseason Poll
The Sun Belt Conference released its 2014 Cross Country Preseason Poll in Sept. and the leagues' coaches voted Arkansas State as the number one team in the league. UT Arlington finished with the same number of points as the Red Wolves but finished in second place with four first place votes. Georgia Southern was selected ninth in the poll.
Indoor Schedule Released
Head Coach Kelly Carter released Georgia Southern's 2014-15 Indoor Season schedule on Friday. The Eagles will begin competition on December 5 at the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker in Birmingham, Ala. And will return after the holiday break with a pair of meets in Clemson, S.C. in the month of January. The Sun Belt Indoor Championships are set for February 23-24 in Birmingham, Ala.
Freshman Setting the Pace
Freshman Karli Koning has paced the Eagles in all but one meet this season. Koning finished second in the season-opening Carolina Invitational and has since finished first among her teammates in four-straight meets. Koning posted a career best (19:01.27) at the Foothills Invitational on October 4 and posted her second best time this season at the College of Charleston Invitational last time out (19:16.10).
