Adam Abdellaoui gets a pair of late goals for the Eagles
Abdellaoui's goals snapped a run of five-straight shutouts for the Tar Heels as the freshman scored his second and third goals of the season.
"We put ourselves in a big hole early by giving up two goals off set pieces," said head coach Kevin Kennedy. "UNC certinaly proved that they were worthy of their high ranking. They were very organized and dangerous. It was good to get a pair of goals late in a crazy finsh. Looking at the big picture, we've got to go back and fix a few things before a big match on Sunday against NJIT."
UNC got a pair of goals in the opening six minutes to take an early lead from Walker Hume and Andy Craven. Craven added goals in the 36th and 69th minutes to take the natural hat trick. The Tar Heels looked in position to cruise for the 4-0 win before bedlam broke out in the final six minutes.
UNC's Verneri Valimaa scored off a shot that hit the post at the 84:31 mark to put the home side up 5-0. The Eagles answered that goal just 20 seconds later as Abdellaoui turned on a shot from 15 yards at the 84:51 mark to get the Eagles' off the mark and cut the UNC advantage to 5-1.
The Tar Heels got their sixth goal of the night 49 seconds later as C.J. Odenigwe posted his first goal of the year at the 85:40 mark. The Eagles answered again just 14 seconds later this time as Abdellaoui drove down the field to score his third goal of the season. The goal at the 85:54 mark made the score 6-2.
North Carolina took a 25-7 lead in shots while Eagle goalkeeper Jack Falle made seven saves in the match.
