STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern University Swimming and Diving program begins their season this weekend with an away meet at Georgia Tech. "Two ACC opponents right out of the gate will be tough, but if we're at our best and they take us lightly it could be really close. That's the mentality we've talked to our team about having," commented Head Coach Nate Kellogg.
The events that Georgia Southern will compete in this weekend:
1. 200 Medley Relay
2. 1000 Free
3. 200 Free
4. 100 Back
5. 100 Breast
6. 200 Fly
7. 50 Free
8. 1-Meter Diving
9. 100 Free
10. 200 Back
11. 200 Breast
12. 500 Free
13. 100 Fly
14. 3-Meter Diving
15. 200 Individual Medley
16. 400 Free Relay
"We're in a really good place right now," said Kellogg. "Early season has been intense, a lot more so than it ever has been, and the team has responded. We have our best class that we've ever brought in with 7 freshmen, and we also have 11 seniors so we have strong leadership. That leadership has already begun to show itself and I look for that to continue and build as we progress through the season."
The season will feature three opportunities to see the Eagles compete at home. On Saturday, November 8th, Georgia Southern will host a Diving Only meet against Clemson at 10 a.m. followed by a Swimming Only meet against University of North Carolina – Asheville at 1 p.m. Both events will be held at the RAC Aquatics Center on the campus of Georgia Southern.
January 17th will feature a home tri-meet between the Eagles, Savannah College of Art and Design, and the College of Charleston. Meet time is slated for 1 p.m. The final home meet of the season will be January 24th against the University of North Florida beginning at 1 p.m.
The Eagles finished 3rd last year in the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association League (CCSA) which boasts a total of 11 schools including: Campbell, Florida Gulf Coast, Gardner-Webb, Howard, Incarnate Word, Liberty, North Carolina A&T, North Florida, UNC Asheville, VMI, and Georgia Southern.
