Georgia Southern picked up a Sun Belt road win at South Alabama and has split matches in the last two weekends of league play. The Eagles open a three-match homestand, their longest of the season, against UL Monroe Friday, Oct. 17, at 6 p.m. in Hanner Fieldhouse. Included in the stretch is a noon matchup against UL Lafayette Sunday, Oct. 19 and a 6 p.m. Dig Pink contest vs. Savannah State Oct. 21.
Eagle senior
Jamie DeRatt needs 150 kills and 169 digs to reach 1,000 for her career.
Senior
Kym Coley has double-figure kills in 10 matches this season and is 234 kills away from 1,000 for her career.Â
With 37 assists at Georgia State Wednesday, junior
Kat Minnerly passed 2,000 for her career and has moved up to sixth on the school's list, 476 helpers shy of fifth. She has tallied 50-plus assists in a match eight times in her three seasons as an Eagle.
Junior
Crysten Curry is 80 blocks shy of 300 for her career, which will put her in seventh on the school's all-time list.Â
Coley has been named one of 30 candidates for the Senior Class Award for excellence, both on and off the court. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship in December.
The Eagles faced three top-20 teams and six opponents from Power-5 conferences in its first nine non-conference matches this season.
