Cross Country Heads to Disney Cross Country Classic

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern cross country team will compete for the second-straight weekend at the Disney Cross Country Classic in Florida. The meet, held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla., will be broadcast on ESPN3.

Teams – Augsburg, Ave Maria, Bethune-Cookman, Chipola College, Cuyahoga, Delta State, Edward Waters, Erskine, FAU, FIU, Georgia Military Academy, Georgia Southern, Johnson & Wales, Lynn, Malone, Methodist, Mississippi College, Nicholls State, Northwood, Oakland City, Oglethorpe, Pasco-Hernando State, Pikeville, Presbyterian, Rollins, Saint Rose, Salem, Spring Hill, St. Thomas, St. Vincent (Pa.), Voorhees, Warner and Youngstown St. 

EAGLES POST THREE CAREER HIGHS IN ALA.
Georgia Southern posted three career highs last time out at the JSU Foothills Invitational in Oxford, Ala. Karli Koning led the Eagles across the finish line (19:01.27), shaving over 30 seconds off her previous career best time. Abigail Booth (20:01.18), Ashton Lord (20:02.59), Rebecca Parker (21:50.93) also posted career bests at the meet. 

FRESHMEN UP FRONT
Either Freshmen Bailey Willett or Karli Koning has been the first Georgia Southern Eagle to cross the finish line in each of the three meets this season. Willett ran a 19:52.33 and led GSU in the Carolina Invitational, while Koning was the first Eagle across the finish line at the USC Open #1 (19:37.52) and the JSU Foothills Invitational (19:01.27).

FIRST YEAR IN SUN BELT
Georgia Southern Athletics became a full member of the Sun Belt Conference officially on July 1, 2014, and the Eagles will compete in the Sun Belt Cross Country Championships on Nov. 11 in Mobile, Ala.

YOUTH MOVEMENT FOR THE EAGLES
Georgia Southern cross country opens the 2014 season with a roster of seven student-athletes, who are all either a freshman or sophomore in the program. Returning from last year's squad are sophomores Katelyn Chancey, Leigha Long, Ashton Lord and Brooke Stanley.
