Meet in Charleston puts Eagles at midway point for 2013
STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Cross Country travels back to the state of South Carolina for the Will Wilson The Citadel Invitational Saturday morning. The Women's 5K race, at James Island County Park in Charleston, S.C., begins at 9:45 a.m. This will be the second race of three straight weekends of competition for the Eagles.
"This course is a potentially fast course and it will offer us some opportunities for our team to build some confidence in themselves," said Georgia Southern Cross Country Coach Marlo Mincey. "We are not going to be 100 percent fresh going into this race and it is a process – learning to race with tired legs, internalizing it and turning it into a fight performance."
Georgia Southern will join 12 other teams among the field at the Will Wilson The Citadel Invitational. Two Eagles competed in the event last year as Amanda Ventre posted her second-best time of the 2012 season and graduate transfer Sherril McFarlane finished in the top 30 in last fall's meet as an undergraduate at South Carolina State.
"This weekend, we will be halfway through our season, so it should be downhill from here and we will race strategize even more in next two weeks, these last four weeks going into championships."
