Men’s Basketball Announces 2013-14 Schedule

Final season in the Southern Conference features 14 home games on the schedule
STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern opens its final season as a member of the Southern Conference with 31 regular season games for first-year head coach Mark Byington. The Eagles have five home dates before opening a 16-game league schedule. Included in the slate of games is a trip to the 2013 Cancun Challenge in November.
Non-conference games against Miami (Fla.), West Virginia, Old Dominion, UAB, Kennesaw State, Campbell, North Carolina A&T, South Carolina State and future Sun Belt conference foe Georgia State highlight the schedule.
"We are very excited about the schedule that awaits us, it should prepare us well for our last season in the SoCon," said Head Coach Mark Byington. "Our staff has worked hard to ensure our players will see different parts of the world, play against top level competition and get as many home games as possible so Eagle Nation can cheer us on in Hanner Fieldhouse. Our team is working very hard to prepare for the great non-conference schedule and to compete against some very good teams in the SoCon."
Season tickets for the 2013-14 campaign go on sale starting on October 7th. For the first time, Georgia Southern will offer special VIP courtside seating options. Lower reserved seating starts at $90 with upper level general admission tickets available for $60 for the season. After starting the 2012-13 season on the road, Georgia Southern begins the 2013-14 campaign at the friendly confines of Hanner Fieldhouse against Columbia International on Friday night, November 8th, at 7:30 p.m. The Eagles get the weekend off before traveling for a Monday night matchup against the University of Miami in Coral Gables.
The following Saturday, Georgia Southern is back at home to face Toccoa Falls in a special tripleheader at Hanner Fieldhouse. The Eagles will close the day of action at the arena which features the Georgia Southern Volleyball and Women's Basketball teams in action as well.
Georgia Southern's play in the 2013 Cancun Challenge starts on November 21st with a trip to face Bob Huggins' squad from West Virginia in Morgantown. The Eagles will then travel to Norfolk two days later for the second tournament game on domestic soil against Old Dominion on November 23rd. From there, it is a flight to the sun and sand of Cancun, Mexico for two more games in the Cancun Challenge on November 26th and 27th.
November comes to a close with the first of two games this season against Campbell. The Eagles face the Camels on November 30th at Hanner Fieldhouse from 7 p.m. GSU gets back-to-back home games when Brewton-Parker comes to town on December 4th.
The Eagles are back on the road on December 7th and 15th with trips to South Carolina State and UAB. The final home game of 2013 is on December 18th as Kennesaw State comes to Statesboro for the return-leg of the home-and-home series which started last year.
Rival Georgia State presents the final test before the holiday period; Georgia Southern is in Atlanta on December 20th for the game in the downtown GSU Sports Arena.
After the holiday break, Southern gets two games in North Carolina before opening league play at home. GSU visits North Carolina A&T on December 28th and then travels to Buies Creek to face the Campbell Camels for the second time in 2013 on December 30th.
The new year brings conference play to Statesboro as the Eagles open league play with three-straight SoCon games at the friendly confines. Samford comes to town on January 4th for a 2 p.m. game, followed by home games on January 11th against Western Carolina and January 16th versus Furman.
On November 18th, the Eagles visit future Sun Belt conference foe Appalachian State before returning home the following Thursday to face Wofford. The month closes with a trip to Davidson on January 25th, followed by the annual home date against The Citadel on November 30th.
February starts with three-straight games on the road, traveling to UNCG on Feb. 1st, Wofford on Feb. 6th and Elon on Feb. 8th. The Eagles are back at home to face UNCG and Davidson on February 12th and 15th.
The stretch run of league play opens on February 20th at Chattanooga before the Eagles host Elon on Feb 22nd for senior day. The regular season ends on the road with trips to Furman on February 27th and The Citadel on March 1st.
The 2013 Southern Conference Tournament is set to run from March 7th through March 10th in Asheville, N.C. The tournament is in its third year at the U.S. Cellular Center in the heart of downtown Asheville.
