Men’s Basketball Adds Transfer Trent Wiedeman

STATESBORO, GA. – Georgia Southern Men's Basketball has added the services of transfer forward Trent Wiedeman. A transfer from the College of Charleston, Wiedeman will be required to sit out the 2013-14 season due to NCAA transfer rules, but will be able to play his final year of eligibility in the 2014-15 season.
"We are very excited to have Trent in our basketball program," said Head coach Mark Byington. "He will be a tremendous asset for our team even though he will only be able to play for one season."
An All-SoCon selection in 2011-12 as a sophomore, Wiedeman joins the Eagles with 893 career points at an average of 9.6 points per game. He earned All-Freshman Team honors in 2010-11 and backed that up with All-SoCon Team honors from the coaches and Third Team All-SoCon honors from the media in 2011-12. Trent started all 30 games as a sophomore with 12.1 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per outing.
"Having coached Trent, I know he will give us toughness, rebounding and a post player who can score on the block," said Byington. "Trent will do a great job of practicing with us this season and helping make some of our other players better. At the same time, our coaching staff will work hard to further develop his skills so he will have a great senior season."
Last season, Wiedeman started just four games under first-year head coach Doug Wojick and averaged 8.5 ppg with 5.5 rebounds per night.
Coming out of high school, Wiedeman was recruited by the Eagles before choosing to play at Charleston. A native of Suwanee, Ga., Trent played his high school ball at Greater Atlanta Christian. The son of Dirk and LeeAnn Wiedeman, he has a brother, Reece, who played for Georgia College & State University. His mother, the former LeeAnn Woodhull, was a standout player at Georgia Tech in the early 1980s and is a member of the Yellow Jackets' Athletics Hall of Fame.
Wiedeman joins Byington's previously announced signings of Kyle Doyle (Hephzibah, Ga.), Torlorf Thomas (Meridian, Miss.) and Curtis Diamond (Lithonia, Ga.).
