Purvis Named SoCon Softball Pitcher of The Year, Thomas and Morrill Earn All-SoCon Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the second-straight season Georgia Southern Softball will enter the postseason with the league’s top pitcher. Sarah Purvis was voted SoCon Pitcher of the Year after a vote of the league’s head coaches. The junior hurler was joined on the All-SoCon First Team by junior shortstop Kourtny Thomas. Designated player Shelby Morrill was named second team All-SoCon.
Purvis (Warner Robins, Ga.) earns SoCon Pitcher of the Year for the second-straight year and earns Georgia Southern’s fourth award in the last five seasons. Purvis went 8-2 in league play while posting a 1.30 ERA. The junior twirler struck out 71 batters and held opposing batters to a .144 average. Overall, Purvis has won 14 games with 180 total strikeouts in 168.0 innings. She tossed a perfect game earlier this season against Southern Illinois and closed the regular season with a one-hit shutout win over Appalachian State, her third one-hitter in league play.
Thomas (Warner Robins, Ga.) earned her first collegiate postseason honor when she was named to the first team All-SoCon at shortstop. She led the Eagles with 11 home runs and was one of the league’s most feared hitters, earning 31 total walks. Thomas slugged .503 on the season and reached base at a .383 clip.
Picking up All-SoCon honors at designated player, Morrill (Madison, Ga.) led the Eagles with a .321 average at the dish. She smashed 11 doubles, two triples and four home runs on the season while posting a .411 on base percentage.
