Eubanks Signs Free Agent Contract to Join Minnesota Vikings

MINNEAPOLIS & THOMSON, Ga. –  Georgia Southern defensive back Darius Eubanks signed as an undrafted free agent with Minnesota Saturday night. Eubanks, who will graduate next month, becomes the first Eagle in the history of the program to join the Vikings. A Southern Conference Coaches first-team all-league selection, Eubanks led Georgia Southern in tackles in four games in 2012. The 6-2, 220-lb. Eubanks was third on the team with 77 total tackles and tied two others for most passes broken up with seven.

"I am very excited to a part of the Minnesota Vikings organization and I can't wait to get up there and prove myself," said SoCon All-conference pick Darius Eubanks. "It was a nerve-wracking day, but I'm blessed to be in the position I am in and have the chance to have a career in the NFL."

The four-year letterwinner started 50 of 52 games during his Georgia Southern career, 37 at linebacker in his first three seasons before moving to the safety spot in 2012. He ranks sixth on the Eagles' career list for fumbles forced and is remembered for forcing the fumble in overtime in the epic Georgia Southern victory over top-ranked and previously undefeated Appalachian State in 2010. That win put the Eagles on track for a playoff bid and the first of their three-straight trips to the NCAA FCS Semifinals.

"Georgia Southern was the only school that really gave me a chance and Coach Monken and the coaching staff coached me, helped me develop as a person and as a "team" guy," Eubanks said. "This next phase of my life is like a dream come true, but I am going to miss Georgia Southern and the teammates I call my brothers."

Eubanks and Brent Russell, who signed with the Chicago Bears, joins J.J. Wilcox, who was selected as the 80th overall pick (18th of the third round), as Eagles headed to the NFL.
