Softball Makes Annual Trip to Face Georgia Bulldogs

STATESBORO, GA. – Georgia Southern Softball closes its 12-game road swing on Wednesday night with a game against the Georgia Bulldogs. The Eagles enter Wednesday’s game leading the Southern Conference with a 4-1 league mark and a 15-17 overall record. Georgia is 25-7 overall and 6-0 in the SEC to lead the East Division. The Bulldogs are also ranked 22nd in the most recent NFCA Top 25 Poll.
This weekend the Eagles return home to host Furman in the first league series of the 2013 campaign. Georgia Southern swept the Paladins last season in the final league series of the 2012 season and lift the SoCon Regular Season Championship Trophy.
The Eagles enter Wednesday’s contest and the closing end of a 12-game road swing which has taken GSU through four different states. Georgia Southern will look to snap a 15-game skid against the Bulldogs and improve on the 1-23 all-time record versus UGA in the 25th game in the series.
Junior Shelby Morrill is hitting .352 to lead the Eagles this season. She has 16 walks this year to rank just behind Kourtny Thomas’ SoCon best mark of 19 walks. Thomas has seven home runs, ranking third in the league with 14 RBIs. First baseman Tabby Douberley paces the team with 22 RBIs, including 11 with two outs.
The Eagle pitching stable owns a 2.84 ERA behind an 8-10 record from Sarah Purvis in 103.1 innings of work. She has struck out 120 batters while opponents are hitting .198 against the junior hurler. Allie Miles is 3-4 on the year with a 3.03 ERA while Brooke Red is 4-2 on the year with a 3.20 ERA.

The Bulldogs hit 10 home runs last weekend in their three-game series against Ole Miss and have won their last 15 games dating back to March 2nd. Geri Ann Glasco is hitting .452 on the year and was named NFCA National Player of the Week with 12 home runs on the season. Glasco is also 15-1 in the pitching circle this year with a 2.17 ERA.
