STATESBORO, Ga. – For the second time in two weeks, Georgia Southern Men’s Basketball faces Appalachian State. This time, the Eagles will host the Mountaineers and look to avenge a 64-62 overtime loss to Appalachian State. C.J. Reed’s three-pointer late in regulation sent the game to an extra frame after the Eagles trailed by as many as 17 points in the second half.
Georgia Southern Athletics will have several promotions and ceremonies during the game designed to recognize members of the armed forces as well as cadets in Georgia Southern’s ROTC program.
Eric Ferguson lead the Eagles in scoring with 14.2 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per contest. He tallied 16 points against Chattanooga last Saturday and scored the game-winning shot from beyond the three-point arc late in the game. Reed, who hit the shot that forced overtime, has 12.4 ppg this year and is averaging 19.5 ppg over the last two games.
Thursday’s game can be heard on the Georgia Southern Radio Network with coverage set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Fans without a local affiliate can listen to the game by utilizing the “Watch and Listen” button on the main page at GSEagles.com. Appalachian State is 1-2 since the teams last met in Boone, falling to Davidson and Charleston before taking a nine-point win over Western Carolina last Saturday. Nathan Healy leads the Mountaineers with 14.6 ppg while Jay Canty has 14.5 ppg on a Mountaineer squad which is averaging 71.1 ppg.
Following Thursday’s game the Eagles host Western Carolina on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. in the team's annual "Pack the House in Pink" night. GSU will face the Catamounts following the Women's Basketball game against College of Charleston.
