Men’s Basketball Travels to Palmetto State to face The Citadel

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Men’s Basketball begins its penultimate road swing of the 2012-13 regular season as the Eagles face The Citadel on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. from McAlister Field House. The Eagles will remain in Chucktown, taking on College of Charleston on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the TD Arena.
Georgia Southern (10-15, 4-8 SoCon) will look to bounce-back from consecutive losses at home to Western Carolina and Appalachian State last week. The Citadel (6-17, 3-10 SoCon) has also dropped back-to-back games with losses to Chattanooga and Samford on the road. The Bulldogs picked up their first league win of the season with a 70-55 win over Georgia Southern on January 19th in Statesboro.
C.J. Reed has been the pacesetter for the Eagles over the last four games with 19.5 points per game. He has scored over 19 points in each contest and dropped 20 on Saturday night against WCU. He is averaging 13.0 ppg this season and needs just 22 more points to reach the 2,000 career point threshold.
Junior Eric Ferguson has 14.3 ppg this season to lead GSU as a team, but was held to just seven points last time out against Western Carolina. He dropped 10 points with eight rebounds against the Bulldogs earlier this season. Junior Brian Holmes set a new career high on Saturday night when he scored 13 points against Western Carolina, passing his previous career mark by three.
The Citadel enters Thursday’s game led by Mike Groselle with 15.1 ppg. In his four starts against Georgia Southern, Groselle is averaging 15.5 ppg with two double-doubles. In the game on January 19th, Matt Van Scyoc scored 21 points on 5-of-8 shooting from downtown to lead the Bulldogs.
