Georgia Southern Finishes in 11th in Final League Competition
HOOVER, Ala. – Graduate student-athlete Sherril McFarlane posted Georgia Southern's top 5K time of 2013 at the Southern Conference Cross Country Championships held at Veteran's Park Saturday with a 19:24.37 for 45th place. The Georgia Southern Cross Country team finished in 11th with 305 points in their final year of competition in the SoCon.
McFarlane's time is Georgia Southern's 12th best time in the history of the program and is in the Eagles' all-time top-10 for Southern Conference Championship performances. Senior Amanda Ventre, Cherrelle King and Ashleigh Rasheed recorded their season best times of 2013.
"We were proud of Sherril and what she accomplished with such a remarkable effort at today's meet," said Georgia Southern Cross Country Coach Marlo Mincey. "She is going to be a breath of fresh air when we start our indoor track season. We know we need to progress from this point and we'll continue to improve."
Several of the Georgia Southern cross country student-athletes will compete with the Eagle Track and Field team for both the indoor and outdoor seasons. The indoor season begins December 6th with the Eagles traveling to Birmingham Southern.
