STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern women's basketball coach Chris Vozab announced today that Jakayvea Akins (Springfield, Ga./Effingham), Sierra Butler (Norcross, Ga./Norcross), Alexis Foulks (Columbia, S.C./Columbia), Trellanie English-Lurry (Davie, Fla./Nova), Abby Hix (Independence, Mo./Truman) and Jessica Mlaska (Woodstock, Ga./River Ridge) have all signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Georgia Southern and play for the Eagles, beginning in the 2014-15 season.

"We are thrilled about this class as these young ladies complement each other on the court and will mesh well with the culture we are building," said Vozab. "These future Eagles bring the ability to score in different ways, and they increase our athleticism, which will enable us to do some more things defensively and to continue to develop the ability to play at a faster pace. Recruiting coordinator Lisa Jackson and our entire staff did a great job to sign this talented class. We are excited about the impact these six young women will have on the court as Eagles, in the classroom at Georgia Southern and throughout the Statesboro community."

Jakayvea Akin
Jakayvea Akins, G, 5-6 – Averaged 9.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, three assists and 2.4 steals a game as a junior at Effingham County… helped her team to the 2013 Class AAAAA state final four.
Vozab on Akins: "Jakayvea is not only incredibly fast and explosive with the basketball, but she also possesses great awareness of the tempo needed to initiate half-court offense as well as the fast break.  She comes from a well-coached high school program where she has also learned how to utilize her quickness to create pressure on defense."
Sierra Butler
Sierra Butler, F/C, 6-2 – The Lady Blue won the Class AAAAAA state championship in 2013 and were ranked 14th in the country… Sister, Patrice, is a sophomore on the Georgia Southern women's basketball team.
Vozab on Butler: "Sierra is a talented post player who meshes great with our Hi-Lo Offense.  She thrived this summer on the AAU Circuit versus top competition and plays for a top high school program. We are fortunate to add a player of Sierra's caliber, who will add great length, strength, athleticism, skill and versatility to our post player arsenal."
Alexis Fouks
Alexis Foulks, G, 6-1 – Averaged 11.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game as a junior at Columbia High School… Named a top player to watch in South Carolina in the class of 2014 by SouthernHoops.net…Ranked fourth in her class academically
Vozab on Foulks: "Alexis is a tall, agile and lanky guard with terrific potential and a great work ethic. With increased strength, her tremendous wing-span will enable her to score in different ways on the offensive end, and to be just as versatile defensively."
Trellanie English-Lurry
Trellanie English-Lurry, G, 5-7 – Averaged 8.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.2 steals a game as a junior at Nova High School…Helped her team to a second-place finish in the state tournament.
Vozab on English-Lurry: "Trellanie possesses the skill sets of both a combo guard and a slasher, and has the athleticism and smarts to defend at any guard position.  She attacks the rim off the bounce, has a consistent mid-range stroke, and can hit the three.  Trellanie's poise and consistent demeanor on the court are impressive, as is the fact that she takes big shots with confidence."

Vozab on Hix: "Abby is a tremendous shooter with great range and confidence in her stroke.  Not only does she have the skill to stretch the defense, but she has the smarts and awareness to read screens and move without the ball in order to create scoring opportunities for herself."
Jessica Mlaska
Jessica Mlaska, F/C, 6-2 – Averaged 3.9 points and 5.4 rebounds a game as a junior at River Ridge High School and helped her team advance to the Class AAAA elite 8 in 2013… Also named all-state in volleyball.
Vozab on Mlaska: "Jessica brings great toughness and tenacity to our post play.  She is strong, physical and reads the boards to chase down rebounds.  She prides herself on her consistent defense and her rebounding, and our staff believes her best offense is ahead of her, as she will have the potential to flourish in our Hi-Lo game."
