Women's Soccer Falls to Appalachian State, 3-1

Box Score STATESBORO, GA.- Georgia Southern women's soccer battled Appalachian State at Erk Park on Friday night, coming up short, 3-1. The Eagles overall record is 2-7-2, while the Mountaineers are 5-4-2.

Nearing the 13 minute mark, App State's Julia Holz lobbed one past the Eagles goalkeeper Molly Williams, scoring the first goal of the game. Closely following, the Mountaineers tallied another goal on 15 minutes by Samantha Childress.

Appalachian State held the 2-0 lead at halftime despite the Eagles out-shooting the visitors, 7-4.

Alex Murphy put GSU on the scoreboard in the 54th minute, slipping one by App States' goalkeeper Megan Roberson leaving the score 2-1. Alex was assisted by Nora El-Shami, for her second goal of the season.

The Mountaineers scored again on 66 minutes, a corner kick from Jaclyn Nieradka slithered past Eagles'goalkeeper Molly Williams as ASU jumped ahead 3-1.

"Overall I think we played well," said Head Coach Brian Dunleavy. "We did a good job attacking, but defensively we were nervous, scared, and shaking. There was some miscommunication, however I think this was some of the best play we've seen all year. We just need to find more consistency in our game; it doesn't have to be perfect, we just have to fire on all cylinders. We will just have to shake off this game and move on, focus on Western Carolina on Sunday."

The Georgia Southern Eagles take on the Western Carolina Catamounts on Sunday, October 6th at 2pm. The match from Eagle Field can be seen live on GS All-Access from GSEagles.com.
