Men’s Soccer Drops Donybrook at UNCG, 2-1

Hunter Norton scores in the first half for the Eagles, but two late goals give UNCG the win

Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Southern Men's Soccer got an early goal on Saturday night against UNCG to take a 1-0 lead, but a pair of late tallies by the home side gave the Spartans a 2-1 victory. Hunter Norton scored the 29th minute goal for the Eagles. UNCG got its goals in the 68th and 76th minutes for the win.

"It was the tale of two halves tonight," said Head Coach Kevin Kennedy. "We were all over them in the first half. We knew that the first goal of the second half would going to be crucial and they got it and went on to get another one a few minutes later. I feel like we played well, but could have finished better in the second half."

The Eagles fall to 6-9-0 on the year and 1-4-0 in SoCon play. UNCG improves to 3-1-1 in league play and 8-6-2 overall.

Hunter Norton made his final trip to Greensboro count by posting the breakthrough goal on 29 minutes. A run by Eric Dinka sliced through the Spartan defense and a pass to Norton in the penalty area freed the senior for the goal, his fourth of the season.

The teams were even in the shots department all night with each team taking four shots in the first 45 minutes and seven in the second half.

On 68 minutes Dustin Gamradt scored the first of his two goals. A pass in the box by Oddur Gudmundsson allowed Gamradt to score his fourth of the season and tie the match at 1-1.

UNCG's pressure continued after the equalizer and it paid off in the 76th minute with what would prove to be the game-winning goal. It was Gamradt again, this time getting on the end of a cross from Hill Gwynn at the top of the box for the shot.

GSU's goalkeeper Neal Bates made four saves on the night.

Next up is the 2013 SoCon Finale against Furman. The Eagles travel to Greenville on Tuesday night to face the 11th ranked Paladins. With no cards on the night for Georgia Southern, the Eagles will not lose any players to yellow card accumulation for the final league game of the season.
