SAVANNAH, Ga.- Georgia Southern swimming and diving opens their fall season with an away meet this weekend. The swimmers are heading to Savannah to compete against SCAD and Limestone College, while the divers will be in Clemson, SC to compete against Clemson and University of Richmond.
"We are excited to begin competition this Saturday," said Head Coach Nate Kellogg. "Our team has been working very hard and we're looking forward to see how we execute some of the things we've been working on over the last nine weeks of training. This meet will serve as a benchmark and give us an idea of where we are at this point in the season."
The swimmers will be competing in the following events:
1. 4x50 Medley Relay
2. 1000 Free
3. 200 Free
4. 100 Back
5. 100 Breast
6. 200 Fly
7. 50 Free
8. 100 Free
9. 200 Back
10. 200 Back
11. 500 Free
12. 100 Fly
13. 200 IM
14. 4x50 Free Relay
*Please note that all swimming events will be yards (not meters).
The divers will be competing 1-meter and 3-meter diving events at Clemson. Diving Coach David Giambra earned his undergraduate degree from Clemson, and was a four-year letter winner on the diving team. "I am very excited for this weekend," said Giambra. "It is always nice to go back to your alma mater. The pool has changed since I have last been there and I'm looking forward to being on deck. I have felt that our divers have been performing very well to begin this season and this meet will show the resolve of our divers. We have some adversity to overcome because the pool has been broken the week leading up to the meet, but I still expect the divers to be able to perform at a high level. I anticipate the meet to be close. I think we have the talent to win the meet, but I know that our divers will have to dive up to their potential to make that happen."
After Saturday, the Eagles have a few weeks to recover and prepare for their next meet against College of Charleston and East Carolina on November 9th.
