Former Men’s Soccer Player Martin Parris Passes Away

Funeral service to be held on Friday in Fayetteville, Ga.

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Men's Soccer Alumnus Martin Parris passed away on Sunday morning in a fatal car accident in Fayetteville, Ga., he was 31 years old.

Parris played from 2001-03 for the Eagles. His brother Pat Parris, played from 1994-97 and is currently the Men's Soccer Head Coach at the University of North Georgia.

"The soccer family here at Georgia Southern is sad to hear of Martin's passing; our thoughts go out to his family and friends," said Head Coach Kevin Kennedy. "His brother Pat was also an alum of our program and a former assistant coach, and he will be on our minds as well during this most difficult time. I understand that the men's team at UNG will be dealing with a lot of emotions for the remainder of their season, and we wish them the very best."

A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Martin is the son of Loretta E. and Valentine Parris. He leaves behind brother Pat Parris and Sean Marshall. In April of 2013, Martin married Kathleen Kapolka Parris.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 25th, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Fayetteville, Ga.
