Women's Soccer Defeats UNCG, 1-0

Box Score STATESBORO, Ga.- Georgia Southern women's soccer defeated University of North Carolina Greensboro on Sunday afternoon, 1-0. The Eagles recognized Senior Day at Eagle Field, honoring all of their seniors prior to the match for their contributions to the program.

The Eagles boosted their overall record to 5-8-2 and 3-3-1 in SoCon play. The UNCG Spartans are 8-6-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the league.

UNCG women's soccer had not lost a match on the road in the last 4 years, but the Eagles were able to break their 25 match unbeaten streak. The Eagles have now won three of the last four games against UNCG.

"Our defenders played really well," said Head Coach Brian Dunleavy. "Molly Williams had a great game as well, and Nora's goal was fantastic. We definitely played some good soccer, these girls are working hard and they deserve this win."

Neither team was able to score in the first half, both teams holding back the offense. The game remained scoreless through most of the second half.

With just 12 minutes left in the game, Nora El-Shami scored a phenomenal goal off of a corner kick, her fourth of the season. El-Shami's goal put GSU on the scoreboard leading the Spartans 1-0. Last season, Nora scored the game-winning goal that helped the Eagles upset the top-seeded Spartans in the opening round of the SoCon Tournament.

The Eagles encounter Furman next Friday, October 25th in Greenville, SC.
