Eagles race in largest meet of the year against more than 30 teams
STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Cross Country completes its regular season on Friday, October 17th, when it competes at the Blue Ridge Open in Boone, N.C. Appalachian State plays host to the 5K race this weekend with more than 30 teams participating, including seven total from the Southern Conference. The women's 5K is set for a 3 p.m. start.
The course for this weekend's race, the Donnie Kennedy Cross Country trails at Appalachian State Farm Farms, served as the site of the SoCon championship in 2010. The trails, at 3,300-plus feet above sea level, feature grass and pea gravel with two bridges, each crossed twice.
"This will be our first experience this year competing in a meet this large and tactics are everything as we hope everyone will execute, follow their race plans and position themselves well," said Georgia Southern Head Coach Marlo Mincey. "A lot of our base work has been done earlier, so we focus on being mentally tough and confident, especially with the conference championships coming up."
This weekend's meet is the final competition for the Eagles before they make their final preparations for the Southern Conference Championships in Hoover, Ala., on November 2nd.
