Box Score BURLINGTON, N.C. – Georgia Southern Men's Soccer came out on the short-end of a 1-0 scoreline on Tuesday night at Elon. The Eagle offense tallied just five shots in the contest while goalkeeper
Neal Bates made eight saves on the night. Next up for GSU is Senior Night on Saturday against Appalachian State.
"Elon was better than us tonight," said Head Coach
Kevin Kennedy. "I was disappointed with the way we gave up the goal and our inability to score in the attacking third tonight."
It was the home side that took a 1-0 lead just after the half hour mark when Jason Waterman fed a through-ball to Matt Wescoe near the penalty spot, allowing him to score his fourth of the season.
The Eagle offense, however, was unable to score the equalizer, taking five total shots including a game-high two from the boot of
Reed Norton.
GSU's netminder made eight saves on the night as the senior made a bid to stay in the top-10 of the NCAA saves chart. Elon took 20 shots in the match with six coming from Wescoe.
Elon takes all three points and goes second in the SoCon, three-point adrift of Wofford for first place. Georgia Southern is now 4-8-0 on the year with an 0-3 league record, halfway through SoCon play.
