Eric Ferguson Named SoCon December Player of the Month

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference has named Georgia Southern junior forward Eric Ferguson the league’s December Player of the Month on Thursday. The league tabbed Ferguson as the top player during December after he averaged 16.0 points per game with 6.3 rebounds per contest. The award is Ferguson’s first in-season accolade from the SoCon.
The Statesboro, Ga., native shot 59.4 percent (41-for-69) from the floor, including a 6-for-11 mark (54.5 percent) from 3-point range. Ferguson scored in double figures in six December contests, bookending the month with a pair of 20-point performances. The junior had 23 points against Samford on Dec. 1 and scored 24 in an overtime win over Georgia State on Dec. 29.
Ferguson had six points in the final 90 seconds of regulation against the Panthers, including a 3-pointer to send the game to an extra session, as the Eagles rallied from 10 down in the final two minutes of regulation. Ferguson also recorded his third double-double of the season in December, scoring 14 points and pulling down 10 rebounds in GSU’s 78-73 win over Virginia Tech on Dec. 15.
