STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern baseball team completed their second intrasquad scrimmage of the preseason on Sunday. The second time out showed more balance than Friday's preseason opener.
“It was better than Friday,” Head Coach Rodney Hennon said about the second scrimmage of the preseason. “I thought the hitters looked more comfortable in the box, and we took some better swings.”
The offense combined for seven runs and 11 hits between the two teams. Arthur Owens posted three hits in three at-bats and drove in two runs, while Brent Pugh recorded a base hit and a sacrifice fly to score two more runs.
“We did a nice job running the bases and just executed a little better offensively as a whole,” Hennon said. “We still did a nice job pitching, and I thought Jason Richman did a nice job of pounding the strike zone.”
Richman started for the visiting team and tossed three scoreless frames. The freshman struck out four batters and only allowed two hits to the 10 batters he faced. Josh Stevenson drew the start for the home team and allowed just a pair of unearned runs over two innings.
Season tickets for GSU's 31 home games are still on sale, and tickets are also available for the annual Evening with the All-Stars banquet on January 31st. Both can be purchased by calling 1-800-GSU-WINS.
