Men’s Basketball Travels to Appalachian State on Thursday

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Men’s Basketball returns to the Tar Heel State for back-to-back games against Appalachian State and Western Carolina this weekend. The Eagles face the Mountaineers on Thursday night at 7 p.m. inside the Holmes Center.
The Eagles enter Thursday night’s game at 8-11 overall and 2-4 in league play. Georgia Southern notched wins over the league’s two top teams last week, Davidson and College of Charleston. C.J. Reed led the Eagles with 14.3 points per game to garner SoCon Player of the Week honors from CollegeSportsMadness.com. Overall, Reed ranks second on the Eagles with 11.7 points per game.
Thursday’s game can be heard on the Georgia Southern Radio Network with coverage set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Fans without a local affiliate can listen to the game by utilizing the “Watch and Listen” button on the main page at GSEagles.com
Junior Eric Ferguson leads the Eagles with 14.2 points per game in scoring to rank 11th in the conference. He also ranks third in rebounds with 7.6 boards per contest. Tré Bussey scored 12 points on Saturday night against The Citadel and is averaging 10.7 points per outing.
The Eagles trail in the all-time series 22-17, but won last year’s contest at Hanner Fieldhouse. The Mountaineers have won five-straight games in the High Country with ASU taking a 79-51 last time out in Boone during the 2010-11 season.
Appalachian State is on a two-game skid, falling on the road to Chattanooga and Samford after winning three-straight league contests. The Mountaineers are 7-10 overall and 3-3 in the Southern Conference. Five Mountaineers are averaging double digit scoring with Jay Canty pacing the squad with 15.7 points per game. Nathan Healy ranks second on the ASU squad with 14.6 points per game.
Following Thursday’s game the Eagles will make the jaunt to Cullowhee for Saturday afternoon’s game against the Catamounts. The game between Georgia Southern and Western Carolina starts at 2 p.m.
