STATESBORO, Ga. - Current Kansas City Royals manager and former Atlanta Braves assistant coach, Ned Yost, headlines the 2013 Evening with the All-Stars, set for Jan. 31 in the Nessmith-Lane Conference Center at 7:15 p.m. A silent auction precedes the dinner and starts at 6:30 p.m.
Yost, who served as the bullpen coach on the 1995 Braves' World Series Championship team, played six seasons in the major leagues with Milwaukee, Texas and Montreal and was a backup catcher on the Brewers' 1982 World Series team. On October 29, 2002 Yost was named the manager of the Milwaukee Brewers and on May 13, 2010 he replaced Trey Hillman as the manager of the Kansas City Royals, where he manages former Eagle Everett Teaford. In all Yost has managed over 1,400 games over the course of 9 years as a major league manager.
“We are very excited about this year's event. The Evening with the All-Stars has been very successful the last two years. I think it has been not only a great thing for our program, but I think it has been a big hit in the community,” Head Coach Rodney Hennon said about the annual baseball season kickoff event. “We are very fortunate to have Ned Yost come and speak to us. I think he will have some great stories from his days with the Atlanta Braves and talk to us about where he is at now managing the Kansas City Royals.”
Former Eagles Victor Roache and Chris Beck will also be on hand to give updates on their careers and experiences as minor leaguers.
“I am also excited to have two former players be a part of the program and talk about where they are at right now as they pursue their careers in professional baseball,” Hennon said.
Roache, a first round draft pick of the Milwaukee Brewers, finished his career at Georgia Southern with a .302 batting average, 40 home runs and 127 RBIs. He also led the nation with 30 home runs during the 2011 season and was selected to four All-American teams as a sophomore.
Beck, a second round pick of the Chicago White Sox, finished his GSU career with a 17-16 record, a 4.18 ERA and 247 strikeouts. He was also named the 2011 Southern Conference Tournament Most Outstanding Player and Walt Nadzak Award winner after a complete game shutout in the SoCon Title game.
“This event puts baseball back on people's mind. Not a lot of people are thinking about baseball in January but the college season is right around the corner. It is a great way to kick off the year,” Hennon said.
Tickets for the second Evening with the All-Stars are $75 for adults and $50 for children, while corporate tables that seat eight are $800.
