Purvis Named SoCon Pitcher of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Georgia Southern pitcher Sarah Purvis was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week for the final weekend of the regular season. She went 2-0 last week with no runs scored while scattering six Furman hits in the weekend. Her four-hit shutout in the regular season finale helped the Eagles clinch the 2012 SoCon Regular Season Championship.
The Warner Robins, Ga. native earns her third weekly honor and became the first 20-game winner in Georgia Southern history. She finished the regular season with a 1.52 ERA and a 20-9 overall record. Purvis struck out 221 batters on the year to set a new school record.
The Eagles open the SoCon Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at 5 p.m. in Boone, N.C. GSU faces either Furman or Samford, who square off in the tournament's play-in game at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
