STATESBORO, Ga. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has named a pair of Eagles to its 2012 All-South Region Team. Senior Marie Fogle (Rincon, Ga.) and sophomore Sarah Purvis (Warner Robins, Ga.) were named to the All-South Region Second Team.
Fogle finished her senior season as the Eagles' career slugging percentage record holder. She ranks third for career batting average at .345 over her four seasons in Statesboro. In the 2012 campaign, Fogle hit a career-best .397 with nine home runs. She ranks fourth on the GSU career home runs chart with 27 home runs.
Purvis' sophomore season earned her SoCon Pitcher of the Year honors. She set a new school record with a 23-12 overall record and 253 total strikeouts. Purvis tossed six shutouts on the year and allowed just 49 earned runs over 220.1 innings for a 1.56 ERA. She held opposing batters to a .168 average.
This season is the second time in the last three seasons that Georgia Southern has garnered a pair of All-Region Honorees. In 2010, Brianna Streetmon and Nina Iduate each earned all-region honors. Purvis and Fogle are also the seventh and eighth Eagles, respectively, to earn NFCA All-Region honors.
