Men?s Tennis Hosts Weekend Set of Action

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern Men's Tennis team will cap off its six-game homestand this weekend when it hosts Stetson and Georgia State. Action is slated to begin against Stetson on Friday at 2 p.m. and against Georgia State on Sunday at noon. Stetson and Georgia State will also square off in Statesboro on Saturday at noon.
The Eagles (1-10) are coming off two narrow defeats to conference opponents UNC Greensboro and Davidson. The Eagles' doubles squads are syncing well as the season progresses, as evidenced by their capturing the doubles point in each of the last two matches. Alain Garrido (Vigo, Spain) and Andrew Dromsky (Martinez, Ga.) defeated Davidson's No. 1 tandem that is currently ranked No. 57 in the country and has been ranked as highly as No. 19. Garrido and Dromsky are joined by the team of Daniel Rush (Orange Park, Fla.) and Marco Osorio (Tegucigalpa, Honduras), as well as the freshmen duo of Kyle Hoffman (Sarasota, Fla.) and Albert Codina Sala (Manresa, Spain), in providing solid play for the Eagles. Singles action has been frustrating for the team to this point. They have continuously built leads but haven't been able to sustain them for the entire length of matches. The Eagles look for this trend to reverse now that they have reached the halfway point of their season.
Atlantic Sun Conference foe Stetson is currently ranked 70th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Hatters are 6-2 on the year, with their only losses coming to ranked Arkansas and Memphis squads. They are coming off a season in which they reached the finals of the A-Sun Conference Tournament. The Eagles are 2-3 all-time against the Hatters, including a 5-2 loss in DeLand last season.
The Georgia State Panthers hail from the Colonial Athletic Association. “The other GSU” is currently riding a seven-game winning streak and is an impressive 11-2 on the season, with their only losses coming to South Carolina and No. 29 Georgia Tech. The Panthers went 21-6 last season, setting a school record for wins, and ended the year ranked No. 65 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association standings. The Eagles have a 19-13 all-time record against the Panthers but have lost ten straight, including 5-2 losses in each of the last two seasons.
