Softball Faces Kennesaw State in Non-Conference Series

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Softball get s a respite from league play this weekend with a trip to Kennesaw State for a three-game series. The weekend begins on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m., followed by the Sunday finale at 1 p.m. The Eagles enter the weekend at 17-10 overall and on a four-game winning streak. Kennesaw State is 16-12 after downing Samford, 10-2 on Thursday night.
Marie Fogle (Rincon, Ga.) leads the Eagles at the plate with a .460 batting average and a .724 slugging percentage. Last week, Fogle was named SoCon Player of the Week after hitting .550 over seven games on the week. The Eagle centerfielder ranks second in the league in batting and fourth in slugging percentage.
The Eagle pitching staff is one of the best in the league, combining for a 1.87 team ERA while allowing a league-low 67 runs to score. Freshman Brooke Red (Warner Robins, Ga.) owns a 0.77 ERA and is holding opposing batters to a .166 batting average. She has just allowed just 10 runs, six earned over 54.2 innings of work. Red also has a 7-0 record in the circle.
Sophomore Sarah Purvis (Warner Robins, Ga.) has stuck out a league-high 100 batters this season to rank 37th nationally for strikeouts per seven innings. She has a 2.04 ERA and eight wins and a no hitter earlier this year against La Salle. Allie Miles (Dacula, Ga.), this year's Preseason SoCon Pitcher of the Year, has a 3.43 ERA over 32.2 innings while striking out 28 batters.
Kennesaw State has three batters hitting over the .300 threshold and a pair of pitchers with ERAs under 2.00. Sharon Swanson is hitting .370, followed by Jessica Cross at .367. Swanson has hit 10 home runs in 26 games this season to slug .827 on the year. Amanda Henderson tossed a two-hitter against Samford on Thursday night and has a 1.63 ERA and a 7-4 record on the season.
Following this weekend's games, the Eagles travel to Georgia on Wednesday, March 28th before hosting Chattanooga for a league series next weekend.
