KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Georgia Southern's Eric Ferguson (Statesboro, Ga.) was recently honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) as a member of the All-District 22 Second Team.
He is the first Eagle player since Michael Curry in 1990 to earn All-District honors from the NABC. Jeff Sanders (1989) was the only other Eagle to pick up the honor in the Division I era at Georgia Southern.
Ferguson had a tremendous sophomore season, leading the Eagles to the second best league record in the Southern Conference with 15.4 points per game. He shot 56.8% from the field this season and made 7.2 rebounds per game to earn All-SoCon honors from both the league's media and coaches.
With a pair of 20+ point performances in the SoCon Tournament, Ferguson earned All-SoCon Tournament honors. He was the only player in the Tournament to score over 20 points in multiple contests, scoring 26 in the opener against Chattanooga and 21 versus Elon.
The blog RushtheCourt.net named Ferguson their SoCon Player of the Year for his part in the Eagles' turnaround this season. Georgia Southern added 11 league wins to their 2010-11 total to finish the year at 12-6 in SoCon play and 15-15 overall.
