Eagles Enter Home Stretch on Monday Versus Furman

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Men's Basketball is back at Hanner Fieldhouse on Monday night for the first of two pivotal home games that will help decide the SoCon South. The Eagles look to avenge a 64-54 loss to the Paladins on January 19th and stat even with Wofford for second place in the SoCon South. Monday's game is part of a doubleheader at Hanner Fieldhouse with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Sophomore Jelani Hewitt (Miramar, Fla.) has the hot hand for the Eagles with 19.0 points per game over the last three contests. He scored 18 points on Saturday afternoon as the Eagles downed Western Carolina, 68-65. The win improved the Eagles to 10-12 overall and 8-4 in league play. Senior Ben Drayton III (St. Marys, Ga.) scored 14 in the contest with 10 in the first six minutes of the game.
Willie Powers III (Gainesville, Fla.) had seven assists in the victory against the Catamounts and scored the go-ahead basket with 1:40 remaining. Marvin Baynham (Miami, Fla.) set a new season-high with seven points, going 3-for-3 from the field with a free throw.
SoCon Player of the Year Candidate Eric Ferguson (Statesboro, Ga.) leads the Eagles with 15.6 points per game. He is shooting at a 57.0% clip from the field and has 7.0 rebounds per game. In league play, Ferguson is scoring 16.3 points per game.
In the January 19th game against the Paladins, Ferguson scored 15 points, but it wasn't enough to stop the Paladins who out-rebounded the Eagles by a 42-28 margin. 14 of the Furman rebounds came from Charlie Reddick who scored a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
The Paladins took a 93-85 win over UNCG to snap the Spartans' seven-game winning streak. Six Paadins scored in double figures and three matched or established new career highs in the win for Furman. Brandon Sebirumbi, Furman's leading scorer with 11.1 points per game this year scored 20 points to lead the Paladins.
Georgia Southern plays host to Wofford on Thursday night to close out the homestand. The game against the Terriers begins at 7 p.m.
