Eagles Face Davidson on Senior Night

STATESBORO, Ga. - Just 48 hours after a tough loss to Charleston, Georgia Southern will go for second place in the Southern Conference South Division against Davidson on Saturday night inside Hanner Fieldhouse. Prior to Saturday's 7 p.m. tipoff, the Eagles will honor seniors Willie Powers III and Ben Drayton III.
The Eagles (14-13, 12-5 SoCon) return to the friendly confines following Thursday night's 58-53 loss to the College of Charleston in South Carolina's low country. The Eagles lead Wofford by one game for second place in the SoCon South and need either a win over Davidson or a Wofford loss to Furman on Saturday night to get a first round bye in the Southern Conference Tournament which begins on Friday, March 2nd in Asheville.
Senior Willie Powers III (Gainesville, Fla.) starts his 99th career game for the Eagles on Saturday night and ranks 22nd all-time in scoring at the University with 1,300 career points. Fellow senior Ben Drayton III (St. Marys, Ga.) has been putting the finishing touches on a four-year career at GSU which has him ranked 15th in all-time scoring with 1,465 career points.
SoCon Player of the Year Candidate Eric Ferguson (Statesboro, Ga.) leads the Eagles with 14.9 points per game. He is shooting .570 from the field this season with 402 points this season. Ferguson has five double-doubles this season and has averaged 7.2 rebounds per game. He also ranks among the top-six in seven separate categories in the Southern Conference this year.
Davidson (21-7, 15-2) clinched the South Division title on Thursday night with a win over Elon on Senior Night in Davidson. De'Mon Brooks leads the Wildcats in scoring with 15.8 points per game while Jake Cohen, who scored 29 points in the earlier meeting this season between the teams, has 13.6 points per game.
The Eagles will learn their opponent and seed for the 2012 Southern Conference Men's Basketball Championships which begins on Friday, March 2nd in Asheville, N.C. Tickets for the tournament can be acquired by calling the Georgia Southern Athletics Ticket Office at 1-800-GSU-WINS.
