Softball Hosts Eagle Classic

STATESBORO, Ga. - After a strong performance that yielded a 1-2 record at last weekend's USF Invitational, Georgia Southern Softball returns to Statesboro for the 2012 Eagle Classic from the friendly confines. The five-team tournament brings Kentucky, Radford, Jacksonville State, North Florida and Albany to Bulloch County for three days of softball action.
The first game each day begins at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings with the Eagles taking to the field beginning at 3:30 p.m. each day. All five of Georgia Southern's games will be shown live on Eagle Vision and live stats for all 14 contests available on GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com
The Eagles (5-5) split with Georgia State last week before traveling to USF for the USF Invitational. While in Tampa, the Eagles downed Drake and took Wisconsin to overtime. The win over Drake was a two-hit shutout for freshman pitcher Brooke Red (Warner-Robins, Ga.) who earned SoCon Pitcher of the Week honors for her efforts.
Georgia Southern's offense is paced by Andrea Tarashuk (Flemington, N.J.) with a .379 average and a league-high six doubles. SoCon Preseason Player of the Year Marie Fogle (Rincon, Ga.) is hitting .364 on the year while serving as a defensive stalwart for the Eagles in centerfield.
Next week, Georgia Southern travels to Knoxville, Tenn. for a doubleheader against Tennessee on Wednesday, February 29th.
