Eagles Face Georgia State in Rivalry Contest

STATESBORO, Ga. - After opening the season with three wins in the first five games of the season, Georgia Southern Softball returns to the diamond at home against Georgia State on Wednesday afternoon, February 15th, for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. Last season the Eagles were 15-10 at Eagle Field with 10 wins in league play at home.

Every home game this season can be heard live on 91.9 WVGS. "The Buzz." 91.9 covers all of Bulloch County and can be heard as far away as Metter and Claxton with Gabriel Quintero calling the action from Eagle Field.
The Eagles notched a pair of wins by large margins last weekend at the Coastal Carolina Kickin' Chicken Classic, downing George Washington 11-1 before defeating George Mason 10-1. Georgia Southern finished the weekend in winning form with a 5-2 victory over Coastal Carolina with a five-run seventh inning.
Georgia Southern had two batters hitting over .400 on the season's opening weekend. Marie Fogle (Rincon, Ga.) hit .471 with three doubles and three RBI. Junior Andrea Tarashuk (Flemington, N.J.) was .467 to open the year at the plate with four doubles and four RBI. Kourtny Thomas (Warner Robins, Ga.) and Tabby Douberley (Clyo, Ga.) each slugged two home runs on the weekend. Douberley also led the team with seven RBI in the five games.
Sarah Purvis (Warner Robins, Ga.) led the Eagle pitching staff with a 2-1 record and a 1.31 ERA. She fanned 13 batters in 16.0 innings of work. Freshman Brooke Red (Warner Robins, Ga.) did not earn a decision in her first weekend, but posted a 1.42 ERA over 9.2 innings of work with six strikeouts.
Georgia State hosted the GSU First Pitch Classic last weekend in Panthersville, Ga., finishing with a 3-1 record. The Panthers downed Longwood, ETSU, and Western Carolina in group play before falling to Longwood in the Championship Game. Georgia State slugged nine home runs in the opening weekend with five batters hitting over .400.
The Eagles travel this weekend to the USF Invitational in Tampa, Fla. Georgia Southern opens the weekend with a 2:15 p.m. game against Arkansas on Friday afternoon before playing a pair of games on Saturday.
