¦ Georgia Southern opens Southern Conference play at Davidson Saturday at 4 p.m.
¦ The Eagles will play at Appalachian State Monday at 6 p.m.
¦ Georgia Southern opens conference play by taking on the league's two preseason favorites on the road. Davidson was picked to win the SoCon in the coaches' poll and Appalachian State was picked first in the media poll.
¦ GSU is in the midst of a four-game road swing and a stretch where the Eagles play 10 of 11 away from home.
¦ It's the fourth straight season GSU will open league play on the road, and the Eagles are 1-2 in the previous three.
¦ Georgia Southern is 10-10 all-time in SoCon openers and 4-5 on the road.

¦ MiMi DuBose scored a game-high 21 points and dished out four assists, and Georgia Southern held Kent State to 26 percent shooting to notch a 71-47 victory over the Golden Flashes last Saturday afternoon in the Georgia State Thanksgiving Tournament in GSU Sports Arena.
¦ DuBose went 5-for-10 from 3-point range and knocked down six of her eight free throws. Jordi Cook scored eight points in 12 minutes off the bench, and four Eagles scored seven points apiece.
¦ The Eagles grinded their way to a 31-22 lead at halftime and pushed the lead into double digits early in the second half. Kent State tried to cut into the lead with full-court pressure, but the Eagles handled it well and wound up shooting 55 percent in the stanza.
¦ For the second straight game, Georgia Southern forced 20-plus turnovers and tallied double-digit steals, finishing the contest with 11.
¦ With GSU leading 37-28 early in the second half, a DuBose triple started a 13-3 run that gave the Eagles a 19-point advantage. Kiki Rawls netted four of her seven points during the stretch, and Danielle Spencer added four. The Eagles pushed a 17-point margin to a 69-43 cushion with 1:58 to play as Cook knocked down consecutive 3-pointers to cap a 13-4 run.
Georgia Southern Inks Three
¦ Jessica Marcus (Charlotte, N.C./Berry Academy), Angel McGowan (Greenville, S.C./J.L. Mann) and Danielle Roberts (Dayton, N.J./South Brunswick) have signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Eagles, beginning in the 2013-14 season.
¦ A 6-foot forward, Marcus averaged 10.5 points and 14 rebounds a game as a junior. She was an All-MEGA 7 3A/4A selection and is a two-time Bojangles Shootout All-Tournament selection.
¦ McGowan averaged 14.4 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals a game as a junior at J.L. Mann. The 5-foot-9 guard was first-team all-region as well as first-team all-county. McGowan has made a name for herself off the court as well as she was recognized by South Carolina Governor Nikky Haley for publishing a children's book, entitled "STOMP OUT the Bullying."
¦ Roberts averaged 10.2 points, 5.6 assists and 3.7 rebounds as a junior at South Brunswick. The 5-foot-7 guard was named second-team all-conference and helped her team win the Greater Middlesex County Conference championship for the first time in 36 years and advance to the second round of the state tournament for the first time in school history.
¦ The three players along with sophomore forward Briana Jones, a transfer from James Madison who committed in the summer and is sitting out this season in accordance with NCAA rules, make up head coach Chris Vozab's first recruiting class at Georgia Southern.
The 2012-13 Schedule
¦ Seven games against teams that finished the 2011-12 season with RPIs in the top-100 highlight the Georgia Southern women's basketball schedule.
¦ A total of seven squads on the schedule played in the NCAA Tournament or WNIT a season ago. Defending Southern Conference champion Samford played in the "Big Dance," while Florida Atlantic, Stetson and James Madison were in the WNIT along with SoCon members Chattanooga, Appalachian State and Davidson.
¦ James Madison (29) and league opponents Chattanooga (62), Appalachian State (63) and Davidson (88) all finished with NCAA RPIs in the top-100.
