Georgia Southern in Second Place after First Day of Wingate Frenzy

WINGATE, N.C. – The Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving team stands in second place out of a nine-team field after day one at the Wingate Frenzy in Wingate, N.C. The Eagles secured top five finishes in five out of the six events they competed in on Friday.
Sara Meisenhelder secured the only number one finish of the day in the 1-Meter Dive, scoring 241.65. In the same event, Amanda Machio finished second (222.45) and Brittany Swanson came in fifth (209.05).
The 200 Free relay team existing of Kylee Parsons, Megan Heller, Devan White and Elaina Lanson earned the first of five top five finish of the day when they finished fourth with a time of 1:38.22. Parson also saw personal success in the 500 Free, coming in third with a time of 5:03.19. Amber Juncker finished a few seconds behind Parsons good for fifth place (5:07.32).
Lanson finished out the day with two more top five finishes, coming in third in the 50 Free (23.99) while also teaming up with Christina Moran, Kristen Bates and Heller for a fifth place finish in the 400 Medley Relay (3:57.47).
"Our first day was very up and down. We made some mistakes in the morning session but I'm proud of the way we came back at finals and made corrections. There is a lot of opportunities ahead to clean things up and compete," Head Coach Nathan Kellogg said.
The Eagles will be in action again Saturday with preliminaries starting at 10:00 a.m.
