Men’s Basketball Visits Charlotte on NBC Sports Network

STATESBORO, GA. – Just days after the 2012 season opener, Georgia Southern Men’s Basketball returns to action on Tuesday night against Charlotte on the NBC Sports Network. The game is the first meeting between the 49ers and Eagles since the 2006 NIT match-up between the programs.
The Eagles opened the season with an 85-54 loss at Valparaiso. Georgia Southern’s freshman Cleon Roberts led all scorers with 18 points in the season opener. Eric Ferguson scored 16 points in the contest, opening his junior campaign with a big dunk, his fifth-straight jam to start a game.
The Eagles are 2-7 all-time against the 49ers in a series that dates back to the 1975 season. Head Coach Charlton “C.Y.” Young scored 15 points in his one game against Charlotte, posting 13 second-half points including three baskets from downtown.
Charlotte opened the season on Friday night with a 68-58 win over Charleston Southern. Terrence Williams scored 19 points with 10 rebounds for his first career double-double in the season opener for the 49ers. E. Victory Nickerson added 11 points while Pierria Henry scored 10 points. Henry also had five rebounds and five steals in the contest.
The Eagles are back at the friendly confines for the 2012 home opener on Friday evening against Webber International. The game starts at 7 p.m. inside Hanner Fieldhouse and can be seen for free on GSEagles.com
